Protected Fiber for Reliable In Building and Campus Wireless Coverage
Iron Photon armored fiber helps protect the optical pathways connecting DAS headend and master-unit equipment, fiber distribution points, remote units and radio infrastructure. Compact stainless-steel armor supports pathway efficiency while armored bulk cable and factory-terminated armored patch cords create a coordinated protected route from the backbone to the equipment connection.

Protected Fiber for Reliable In Building and Campus Wireless Coverage
Distributed antenna systems extend wireless and radio coverage through buildings, campuses and other spaces where exterior network signals may not provide dependable indoor service. A DAS may support commercial cellular service, public-safety radio communications or a project-specific combination of wireless requirements.
Fiber commonly links headend or master-unit equipment with intermediate distribution locations and remote units positioned throughout the facility. Iron Photon integrates flexible stainless-steel spiral armor around the optical core to add cable-level protection while maintaining a compact construction suited to telecommunications rooms, risers, trays, conduits and equipment spaces.
A Coordinated Bulk to Patch Architecture
Iron Photon can coordinate the protected optical path from armored bulk cable to the fiber distribution enclosure and onward through smaller factory-terminated armored patch cords. This approach helps preserve physical protection near racks, cabinets and active DAS equipment, where moves, additions, maintenance and accidental handling can expose short equipment links to damage.
The image models this full path: compact armored bulk fiber enters the distribution enclosure, then armored LC patch cords connect the enclosure to headend and radio-distribution equipment. The cable cutaways are shown at proportional scale, with separated stainless-steel spiral turns and visible gaps beneath the jackets.

Commercial Cellular DAS
Commercial cellular DAS distributes carrier signals through a facility to improve wireless service in areas where building size, construction materials or location limit coverage. Optical fiber can connect centralized radio and headend equipment with remote units positioned closer to the areas being served.
Iron Photon armored fiber can help protect these links through shared telecommunications pathways and active equipment spaces. The complete design—including carrier requirements, DAS platform, optical interfaces, link budget, power, coverage objectives and commissioning—remains the responsibility of the qualified DAS design and integration team.
Public Safety DAS and Emergency Responder Communications
Public-safety DAS and emergency-responder radio systems are life-safety communications systems subject to project-specific codes, local requirements, testing and acceptance. Fiber may be used within an approved system architecture to connect centralized equipment, distribution points and remote units.
Iron Photon can provide cable and assembly configurations for Engineering review, but armored construction alone does not establish fire survivability, pathway compliance or system approval. Required listings, fire ratings, physical protection, circuit survivability, monitoring, backup power, coverage testing and authority-having-jurisdiction acceptance must be confirmed for the exact project and complete installed system.
Protection Through Shared Building Pathways
DAS fiber may pass through telecommunications rooms, risers, corridors, ceilings, equipment rooms and other shared pathways. These routes can expose cable to pulling forces, congestion, future construction and ongoing maintenance activity.
Compact stainless-steel spiral armor adds physical protection around the optical core while preserving flexibility. The appropriate construction must be selected around pathway fill, bend radius, pulling tension, environmental exposure, building rating and installation method.
Factory Terminated Armored Patch Cords
Short equipment links can be vulnerable because they are handled during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and equipment replacement. Iron Photon armored patch cords extend the stainless-steel armor beneath the outer jacket toward the connectorized equipment connection while retaining a compact patch-cord profile.
Factory-terminated assemblies can be configured to the required length, connector type, polish, fiber type, polarity and labeling. Connector performance, equipment port type, optical budget and vendor compatibility must be verified before release.
New Construction Expansion and Retrofit
New projects can coordinate DAS pathways with the building telecommunications design before ceilings and equipment spaces are closed. Existing buildings may require new coverage or capacity through crowded pathways that already contain active services.
Iron Photon can support route-specific configurations for new construction, phased expansion and qualifying retrofit work. Site surveys, pathway review, fill calculations, bend requirements, firestopping, access and installation sequencing must be completed by the responsible project team.
Installer and Integrator Advantage
Iron Photon helps DAS integrators coordinate protective armor, optical fiber, termination and labeling within one cable platform.
Installers and integrators can benefit from:
- Compact armored cable for crowded risers, trays, conduits and equipment spaces
- A coordinated transition from armored bulk fiber to armored equipment patching
- Added protection during pulling, placement, commissioning and system changes
- Factory-terminated assemblies that can reduce field termination labor
- Custom lengths, fiber counts and connector configurations matched to the DAS design
- Project-specific labels, print legends and sequential footage markings
- Singlemode and multimode options aligned with approved equipment requirements
- Factory testing and documentation for qualifying assemblies
- A consistent protected fiber platform across headend, distribution and remote-unit locations
Building Owner Operator and End User Advantage
Reliable DAS infrastructure supports wireless availability for occupants, operations teams, tenants and emergency responders according to the purpose and approved performance of the installed system.
Owners and end users can benefit from:
- Added protection for critical optical pathways
- Reduced exposure to cable damage during maintenance and building changes
- Better use of constrained telecommunications pathways

Engineered Around the Complete DAS Fiber Path
Iron Photon evaluates the complete fiber application before recommending a cable or assembly, including:
- Commercial cellular or public-safety DAS purpose
- Approved DAS platform and active equipment interfaces
- Headend, distribution, remote-unit and antenna architecture
- Fiber type, fiber count, data transport and transmission distance
- Optical loss budget and connector performance requirements
- Risers, trays, conduits, ceilings and interbuilding pathways
- Indoor, outdoor and environmental conditions
- Bend radius, pulling, handling and service-loop requirements
- Connector type, polish, polarity, breakout and labeling
- Jacket, fire-rating, listing and survivability requirements
- Testing, commissioning and documentation requirements
Engineering and Project Qualifications
All published claims and final configurations must be tied to the approved product specification. Engineering review should confirm optical performance, mechanical construction, fiber count, outside diameter, bend radius, tensile limits, crush performance, jacket material, environmental rating, flame listing, connector performance and country-of-origin requirements where applicable.
The qualified DAS designer, equipment manufacturer, integrator and authority having jurisdiction determine system architecture, coverage, active equipment, power, monitoring, commissioning and acceptance requirements. Iron Photon cable selection does not replace those responsibilities.
As a typical guideline, minimum bend radius is 20× the cable outside diameter during installation and 10× after installation. Requirements vary by cable construction; confirm the applicable values for the selected cable and installation conditions.
