High-Speed Multimode Performance Protected by Stainless Steel

Iron Photon multimode bulk armored fiber combines high-speed OM3, OM4 or OM5 optical performance with compact stainless steel spiral armor. The integrated armor provides an additional layer of physical protection while maintaining the flexibility and small outside diameter needed for congested conduits, cable trays, equipment rooms and demanding building pathways.

Available in multiple fiber counts, Iron Photon multimode cable can be configured around the required data rate, transmission distance, network equipment, pathway and installation environment. Indoor, outdoor and indoor/outdoor constructions are available for qualifying applications.

02

Built for High-Speed Facility Networks

Multimode fiber is designed for high-speed optical connections across the shorter distances commonly found within data centers, enterprise facilities, broadcast studios, healthcare systems, campuses and industrial buildings.

Iron Photon adds compact stainless steel armor to help protect these critical connections from crushing, impact, handling and other physical risks encountered during installation and throughout the cable’s service life.

03

Multimode Fiber Options

Iron Photon can support multiple laser-optimized multimode fiber types:

  • OM3 multimode fiber
  • OM4 multimode fiber
  • OM5 wideband multimode fiber
  • One, two, four, six, 12, 24 and 48-fiber constructions
  • Tight-buffered or loose-tube designs, where applicable
  • Indoor constructions
  • Outdoor constructions
  • Indoor/outdoor constructions
  • Plenum- and riser-rated jackets, where available
  • Low-smoke, zero-halogen options, where available
  • UV- and moisture-resistant outdoor jackets
  • Aqua for qualifying OM3/OM4 constructions, lime green for OM5, black and other project-specific jacket colors where applicable
  • Custom lengths and sequential footage markings
  • Custom print legends and cable identification
  • Factory termination for qualifying constructions
  • Project-specific connector and breakout configurations

Final fiber type, fiber count, jacket material, fire rating, environmental suitability and installation method must be confirmed for the selected construction.

04

OM3 Multimode Fiber

OM3 is a laser-optimized multimode fiber designed for high-speed Ethernet and other optical applications within buildings and data centers. It provides a practical foundation for equipment rooms, telecommunications spaces, security networks and facility backbones where the required transmission distance falls within the supported link parameters.

05

OM4 Multimode Fiber

OM4 provides greater modal bandwidth than OM3 and can support longer transmission distances for selected high-speed applications. It is frequently used in data centers, enterprise facilities and other networks requiring higher performance within a multimode architecture.

06

OM5 Wideband Multimode Fiber

OM5 is designed to support shortwave wavelength division multiplexing and other compatible multimode applications. It can provide additional design flexibility for qualifying high-density and high-bandwidth networks when used with compatible optical equipment.

The appropriate multimode fiber type must be selected according to the required data rate, link distance, connector loss budget and active optical equipment.

Data Center Applications

Data centers require high-speed optical connections among switches, servers, storage systems, patching fields and network-distribution areas. These environments can also contain crowded cable trays, high-density racks and pathways where conventional fiber may be exposed to handling and physical damage.

Iron Photon multimode armored fiber provides the performance of OM3, OM4 or OM5 fiber with compact stainless steel protection. The small-diameter construction can help installers manage fiber density while protecting critical connections inside and between data-center spaces.

Applications include:

  • Equipment-to-distribution connections
  • Main and intermediate distribution areas
  • High-density network backbones
  • Switch, server and storage connectivity
  • Meet-me rooms and cross-connects
  • Telecommunications rooms
  • Network expansion projects
  • AI and high-performance computing environments
  • Enterprise and colocation facilities
10

Broadcast and Professional AV Applications

Broadcast and professional audiovisual systems depend on reliable, high-speed connections among studios, control rooms, equipment racks, production spaces, cameras and content-distribution systems.

Iron Photon multimode armored fiber can provide added physical protection for optical connections routed through active production areas, equipment rooms, stages and other spaces where cables may be exposed to frequent handling or accidental damage.

11

Installer Advantage

Iron Photon multimode bulk armored fiber gives installers additional cable protection without the size and handling challenges associated with heavier conventional armored constructions.

Installers benefit from:

  • A compact cable that is easier to pull and route
  • Improved use of limited conduit and cable-tray space
  • Flexible stainless steel spiral armor
  • Additional protection during pulling and placement
  • OM3, OM4 and OM5 options for different network requirements
  • Multiple fiber counts within a coordinated cable platform
  • Jacket options matched to the installation environment
  • Custom footage markings and cable identification
  • Factory-terminated options that can reduce field labor
  • Easier deployment through congested pathways and equipment spaces

The suitability of any construction for installation without conduit must be confirmed against the specific product rating, pathway and applicable codes.

12

End-User Advantage

Damage to a facility’s fiber infrastructure can interrupt network access, data processing, security systems, production operations and communications. Iron Photon helps protect multimode optical connections at the cable level while supporting the speed and capacity required by modern networks.

End users benefit from:

  • Reliable high-speed facility connectivity
  • Added protection for critical optical pathways
  • Reduced exposure to physical cable damage
  • Better use of existing conduit and cable-management capacity
  • Fiber options matched to network equipment and transmission distance
  • Scalable infrastructure for future bandwidth requirements
  • Reduced disruption during qualifying network upgrades
  • Custom configurations developed around the application
  • A durable physical foundation for long-term network performance
13

Compact Armor for High-Density Pathways

The stainless steel armor is integrated into the cable instead of relying solely on a larger external protective system. This allows Iron Photon to provide armored protection in a compact and flexible construction suited for crowded racks, cable trays, conduits and telecommunications spaces.

Actual cable diameter depends on the fiber count, fiber type, buffer design, jacket, environmental rating and selected construction.
